Cheap LED work lights may seem attractive at first glance, but it is wise to look beyond just the purchase price. When purchasing a new set of inexpensive LED work lights to support your work in the dark, reliability is essential. When searching for "cheap LED work lights," you will quickly come across suppliers offering these lights at the "sharpest" or "lowest" price. While this may seem enticing, the reality can be very different. To better prepare you for your purchase, we share here ten useful tips to consider when buying LED work lights.
Tip 1. Is there a CE mark engraved in the LED work light?
Certification of LED lights is an expensive and unfeasible process for many manufacturers. It is therefore common for cheap LED worklights not to have an official CE markering. To begin with, in many cases the required 'CE marking' (Conformité Européenne) is missing. The CE mark indicates that a product complies with the rules within the European Economic Area. The marking is easily confused with the logo that China uses for its export products, namely 'Chinese Export'.
The difference between an official CE marking and the China Export logo can be recognised by the larger distance between the C and the E in the official logo of a CE marking. In addition, the length of the middle 'stem' of the E is shorter, as can be seen in the picture.
Please note! In the event of an accident resulting from, for example, glare caused by non-certified lamps, you may be held liable for any additional damage. Therefore, when purchasing LED lighting, it is always important to look for a CE marking that is engraved on the housing.
Tip 2. Does the worklight have a high degree of EMC suppression (including official EMC suppression)?
The last thing you want is LED work lights that cause radio interference. or other electronic devices. To ensure that your LED lighting does not interfere with the radio, a high degree of EMC suppression is necessary. Our findings show that inexpensive LED work lights do not contain this suppression nine out of ten times. Electromagnetic Compatibility, or the 'EMC component,' is the part that prevents electromagnetic interference between different electronic products or systems. A good LED work light always has a high degree of official EMC suppression. It is therefore always wise to inquire about this from the supplier to ensure that your lighting meets the required standards. This prevents disturbances and disruptions that can lead to unwanted issues and/or reduced performance of your equipment.
Tip 3. Pay attention to the materials used in the work lamp and how is the finish of this is
De beste LED’s die gebruikt worden op voertuigverlichting komen van de fabrikanten CREE, Philips, Epistar of Osram. De LED’s die geproduceerd worden door bovenstaande namen staan bekend om hun lange levensduur en lichtintensiteit. In goedkope LED werklampen worden in veel gevallen deze LED’s niet gebruikt en hierbij zul je daarom merken dat de lichtintensiteit afneemt naarmate je de lamp langer gebruikt. Tevens worden deze zwakkere LED’s gemonteerd op blanco universele printplaten met minder soldeerbevestigingen. Het gevolg hiervan is dat de LED work light is less resistant to vibrations. What stands out:
- Printed circuit boards are poorly finished at 'cheap LED work lights'
- Universal circuit boards have been used that do not fit the housing exactly
- Printed circuit boards contain only two screw fasteners
- Solderings are carelessly placed.
Tip 4. Pay attention to the cable thickness of the LED work light
Oververhitting, een nachtmerrie voor elke LED werklamp. Let bij aankoop van een LED werklamp daarom altijd goed op de kabeldikte. Dit is namelijk een sterke indicatie van de zorgvuldigheid, duurzaamheid en afwerking van uw verlichting. Bij goedkope LED werklampen valt het op dat er vaak bespaard wordt op de kabel en de aansluiting van de LED lamp. Dit is zorgwekkend, aangezien we het hier hebben over de levensader van de werklamp.
Uit een onderzoek van onze technische dienst kwam naar voren dat de bekabeling van goedkope werklampen uit minder koperdraden bestond. Het gevaar van te weinig koperdraden in de bekabeling kan zorgen voor oververhitte verlichting. Daarnaast spelen de draden een grote rol bij het leveren van een solide stroomvoorziening van je lamp. Tip 5. Pay attention to the waterproofness of the LED work light
One of the features that distinguishes good LED worklights from cheap LED worklights is the degree of waterproofness. The degree of watertightness is indicated by a IP coding. It indicates the degree of protection against moisture, dust or penetrating objects. A good LED worklight must continue to perform in different weather conditions. Even in the pouring rain.
When purchasing a good work light, we recommend that the LED work light has at least an IP rating of 67 (IP67). Deze normering wordt gezien als spatwaterdicht. Tip 6. Look at the thickness of the metal on the connection bracket of the LED work light
The base of an LED worklight is in many cases made of metal and is a wonderful indicator of quality. When comparing TRALERT® work lights with some cheap LED work lights, our technical department found that the brackets used during the production of cheap work lights are 0.50mm less thick. Because the connection bracket is less thick, there may be a less covering connection between the LED work light and the machine.
Tip 7. See what accessories are included to attach the LED work light

Tip 8. Cheap LED work lights? Look at the warranty period
Het is natuurlijk erg vervelend als jouw recent aangeschafte LED-werklamp kapot gaat. Nog frustrerender is het wanneer je realiseert dat er geen garantie van toepassing is. Bij het aanschaffen van een LED-werklamp is het daarom altijd belangrijk om goed te letten op de bijgeleverde garantietermijn. Door hierop te letten voorkom je onaangename verrassingen en ben je goed voorbereid in geval van problemen met je verlichting.
Tip 9. See what voltage range the work light contains
Let bij aankoop van een LED werklamp altijd op het spanningsbereik. Het spanningsbereik is vooral bij de categorie LED werklampen zeer belangrijk. In deze categorie kan het spanningsbereik namelijk verschillen tussen werklampen in de categorie 12v/24v. However, TRALERT® also offers work lamps in the multivoltage category. These have a voltage range between 9v and 36v. The reason that TRALERT® worklights have a wider voltage range is because peak voltages can occur when starting up a vehicle. At high frequencies of high voltage, cheap work lamps can stop working. The lamp will burn out or become defective in such a case.
Tip 10. The number of lumens is important - the light distance and dispersion even more important
Lumen en lens techniek, een fantastische combinatie of een vonk die nooit doet overslaan. Als je op zoek bent naar een krachtige werklamp dan is het aantal lumen waarschijnlijk het eerste waar je naar kijkt. Bij aankoop van een LED werklamp is de lichtsterkte enorm belangrijk. Echter, zijn er meer factoren die van belang zijn om te bepalen of een werklamp effectief is of niet. Een LED werklamp met enkel LED’s zonder (spiegel)lens techniek, zal maar een beperkte lichtspreiding en lichtafstand kennen. Het is daarom essentieel dat je werkverlichting naast een hoge lumen output, voorzien is van een sterke lens techniek.
