It is Monday morning and the working week has started again. After a cup of coffee, it is time to start. A new collection has just been LED work lights arrived and you can't wait to get started. After the lights have been mounted on the vehicle, it is time to test the lights! When you turn the lights on, the radio starts to interfere. What? Not now! When this situation occurs you will probably curse the radio. Often the first thought is that the radio is interfering due to poor reception or range, but it is also possible that the radio is interfering due to turning on the lights. In this case, the collection of working lights is not equipped with the right EMC suppression. Does your car radio interfere while driving? Read on to find out how you can solve this.

How is it that the radio interferes when the lights are turned on?

Imagine, your car radio disturbs while driving. You try to fix it but nothing works. How can the interference be caused anyway? All electronic devices can be a source of electromagnetic interference. An interference can cause an electromagnetic noise or an unwanted signal on your radio. It is also possible that the screens in your vehicle start flickering. The problem is often in the LED lights themselves. The LED lights emit too much electromagnetic radiation. When they are connected to the same bandwidth as other electrical devices, this causes interference.

It is also possible that the LED lights interfere with the radio through the wiring. Possibly the interference signals are picked up directly through the wiring. When the cause of the electromagnetic interference is established, the solution is often found quickly. Examples are better shielding of cabling, systems and cable sizes. When these disturbances are resolved, the radio will no longer disturb when turning on the lights.

How can the radio interference be remedied?

It may happen that your car radio disturbs while driving. If your radio interferes when turning on the lights, you would do well to replace the LED lights with higher quality ones. If you search the internet for LED lights, you will find many suppliers who sell LED lights at competitive prices. We would like to advise you to look beyond the purchase price. Of course, it is not nice if your LED lights interfere with the radio. Make sure that the lights have an EMC certificate when you buy them! This prevents the LED lamps from interfering with the radio.

Another feature to look out for when buying is an official CE mark. If an electronic device has an official CE mark then this device automatically also meets the EMC requirements, as this is one of the features that a device must meet to be CE marked. A CE mark in combination with the correct EMC interference will ensure that the radio does not interfere when the lights are switched on.

What is EMC?

EMC is an abbreviation that stands for Electromagnetic Compatibility. At first glance, the concept reads somewhat laboriously, but when we analyse this designation further, it is actually quite simple. If a product is compatible, then various electrical and electronic products can function alongside each other without loss of properties. When a product is not compatible, then the elements cannot function next to each other and you have an EMC failure. When using LED vehicle lighting, this interference can come back to the radio, which starts to interfere when you switch on the LED lighting.

Radio interferes with when LED lighting is switched on - 100% history!

LED lights that interfere with the radio are now a thing of the past with LED lights from TRALERT®. In our product range, you will find EMC interferences of various strengths. Our Optimus Series LED work lights is even equipped with CISPR25 Class 5 interference suppression. In the automotive electronics market, CISPR 25 is an increasingly popular benchmark and requirement for bodywork electronics. Electronics suppliers are increasingly focused on proving that their devices can comply with CISPR 25. The class indicates the level of interference suppression. Are you curious about the products that are equipped with the new CISPR 25 Class 5 interference suppression? Then take a look at this collection on the dealer portal.
